Koo Wee Rup History
Our rivalry with Koo Wee Rup goes right back to 1932, which was the first year we entered the West Gippsland Football competition as Nar Nar Goon.
Pakenham Gazette report of the 1932 match: Kooweerup at home to Nar Nar Goon could only field 17 men, and did surprising well to finish only three points behind the visitors. Nar Nar Goon led off with the wind but failed to press their advantage home, and lead only 1.3 to 1.1 at the change. The Magpies soon took the lead but 'Goon rallied and lead again at the interval 4.5 to 3.8. The third term was altogether the visitors, but they kicked badly and with a 10 point lead at the final crossover were by no means secure. The last term decided in semi-darkness was particularly exciting. Ten minutes before time, the Magpies had drawn up to within two points, but the visitors held the lead till the bell rang, with the scores: Nar Nar Goon 4.14 Kooweerup 4.11 The winners were best served by Marty Reidy, Tom, Dan and Vince Cunningham, Alf Waddell, William Raftis, Alan Smith and Eric Thorn. Overall we have played each other in Seniors 132 times with 75 wins to NNG, 54 to KWR and 3 draws. |
